mHub, in partnership with UNICEF, was in Mangochi from August 1st to the 4th co-facilitating a workshop on Social Media for Youth and Bloggers! UNICEF and mHub identified young story-tellers in Lilongwe and Mangochi to participate in the workshop. Sandra Thier, co-founder and social media specialist for Diego5, gave a presentation on Social Media and Blogging. Participants also learned how to efficiently and effectively use Social Media and blogs to share stories.
Austin Madinga, the Director of mHub, presented on online safety, stressing on how users can protect themselves online as well as the good, bad and ugly side of social media. On the third day of the workshop, participants took a trip to Nsomba, Mangochi and visited Nampingucha Primary School visiting young women who dropped out of school at a young age and are now enrolled in the Adolescent Girls Literacy (AgLit) Project learning how to read and write.
The bloggers-in-training took to their notepads and laptops to write blogs from their experiences during the field trip. The workshop wrapped up with blog presentations and participants were awarded certificates for completing the Social Media Training!
