A new bridge has been constructed in Masasa Ward, Mzuzu in response to reports submitted through Mzinda web platform. mHub’s technology platform, Mzinda, is a citizen engagement tool accessible via mobile application, web, USSD and SMS. The platform allows citizens to engage with their duty bearers on status of service delivery in their respective locations. The residents of Masasa ward reported individually and collectively through their councilor, Yona Mkandawire, on the poor state of the foot-pass bridge. The concerns were escalated to the Mzuzu city Council which later took action to construct a bridge and ensured the safety of residents commuting between Manotha and Chideso.

Mzuzu Councilor, Yona Mkandawire further highlighted that among other projects currently being implemented in his area is the maintenance of a road in Kanthete, an initiative also in response to citizens’ reports sent through the Mzinda web platform.

Through mHub’s Mzinda web platform, citizens are able to send a report on the status of service delivery in their area for the attention of their councilors, city councils and or utility service providers. Reports are sent through SMS to a short code 6466 (for airtel telco users) or +265 888 242 063 or USSD code *646# or alternatively by signing up on the Mzinda web platform at or downloading the Mzinda mobile app from Google Play Store.

Mzinda aims to enhance accountability of duty bearers by using tech as a means for accelerating development.
